Alvin Ailey, also known as Alvin Ailey Jr., is an African-American dancer, director, choreographer and activist who founded Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He created AAADT and its subsidiary Ailey School as a paradise to nurture black artists and demonstrate the universality of the African-American experience through dance. Her work combines theater, modern dance, ballet, and jazz music with a black dialect, creating a hopeful dance that continues to spread global awareness of black life in the United States. Ailey's dance masterpiece, Revelations, is recognized as one of the most loved and most performed ballet in the world.
