Alvin Ailey, also known as Alvin Ailey Jr., is an African-American dancer, director, choreographer and activist who founded Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He created AAADT and its subsidiary Ailey School as a paradise to nurture black artists and demonstrate the universality of the African-American experience through dance. Her work combines theater, modern dance, ballet, and jazz music with a black dialect, creating a hopeful dance that continues to spread global awareness of black life in the United States.
